“Cornet player Charles ‘Buddy’ Bolden was a father of jazz, the first king of New Orleans music and largely a mystery of a man. Now a new film from another icon, Wynton Marsalis, is paying tribute to the legend.” – USA Today
The film, Bolden, directed by Dan Pritzker with music by Wynton Marsalis, is scheduled to hit theaters May 3rd. Shot in Wilmington, NC, pre-production activities in New Orleans included Scott Frock’s work helping to teach lead actor, Gary Carr, to play and appear to play the trumpet. To portray the title character, Carr worked with Frock, Wynton and Delfeayo Marsalis and other musicians in New Orleans and beyond to perfect his timing and delivery as an energetic showman of a jazz musician.
