Jake Shears, charismatic singer of Scissor Sisters fame, released his debut solo album, Jake Shears, in August of 2018. The record features an array of diverse talent, helping create a unique blend of style across the album’s twelve tracks.
Rolling Stone explains “Shears ended up relocating to [producer, Kevin] Ratterman’s La La Land Studios in Louisville, even camping out in the windowless piano room for a stint. Shears recorded the brass arrangements in New Orleans with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Sturgill Simpson’s horn section, and Ratterman recruited members of My Morning Jacket to record live sessions.” Simpson’s horn section from his Sailor’s Guide to Earth tour included Scott Frock on trumpet, Brad Walker on saxophone and Jon Ramm on trombone, who reunited to support Shears for on tracks “Good Friends”, “Sad Song Backwards”, “S.O.B.”, “Creep City”, “Clothes off” and “Mississippi Delta”.
